Wednesday, May 5Wendy Miller will lead us in gentle stretching followed by a zoom celebration of Cinco de Mayo. ReNae will enlighten us on the significance of this holiday. Would it surprise you to learn it’s a lesser holiday in Mexico and originally promoted in the U.S. by beverage companies hoping to cash in on a few extra sales. Fact is Cinco de Mayo sales of liquor rival those of Super Bowl. Advertising and Marketing – it’s the American way!

Royal Marine Commando Steve will be joining us for a talk on Military History. Steve’s talks are so fascinating you may wish to invite a Vet buddy or two to our zoom meeting today. On this day in time Germany and Italy announced a military and political alliance known at the Rome-Berlin Axis, the year was 1939. Little did we know what was to come.

In 1869 on this day a golden spike was driven in Promontory, Utah, marking the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the U.S.

Lori Barnes will lead our Sensational & Super Seniors Book Club with a review of The Other Alcott. (please see Lori’s notes in her email). We will also be having a “Taster’s Choice” discussion of favorite books each of you has chosen to share. Today we observe International Nurses Day. These brave women and women have dedicated their lives to being on the front line in the COVID pandemic battle.

It’s so kind of Pat to share her friends with our group. Today in history, the year is 1962, Marilyn Monroe shimmied on to the stage, stood before the microphone and sang a very memorable “Happy Birthday” to JFK. Who would have thought that film clip would be still be shown 50 years later.

ReNae will discuss our plan to reopen in person meetings scheduled for June 2. There are some new and exciting changes coming including lunches. Re Nae will be happy to answer questions you may have. It’s National Paper Airplane Day. Art Class with Miss Eddi….. she will show us a few fancy twists on paper planes. You will have an opportunity to decorate your plane so have your art kit available. We will be flying our planes and awarding prizes so start thinking about your entry.

Rick Fesler will give a talk and answer questions about a famous happening on Sunday, May 30. Indy 500….since Rick has attended at least 30 Indy 500’s we are sure his comments will be interesting.
Monday, 31 May, Memorial Day, no scheduled Zoom Meeting. However, you are all invited to attend a Memorial Service for Bill Hammon at Freedom Park, 3:00 PM in Edwards. There will be a military presence. Dr. Bill, a renowned Neurosurgeon with the U. S. Army had a rich legacy of service to our country. We will send a flyer for this event. Please watch for it.
