CAREGIVER CONNECTIONS -- NEW NAME, SAME MISSION

Eagle Valley Senior Life: Partners in Elder Caregiving, a nonprofit organization in Eagle County has changed their name to Caregiver Connections: Resources for Senior Care. Wendy Miller, Board President and a caregiver herself, explained, “The name better reflects our mission, which is to connect family caregivers of older adults to resources and respite that will empower them to be the best caregivers they can be.” She added “We aim to be the one-stop resource for caregivers of older adults in the Valley.”

The number of individuals over the age of 65 has doubled in the rural mountain region since 2010 and is predicted to represent 17% of the total population by 2035. Because of the expense of long-term care and the increasing desire of older adults to age in place, family members are increasingly being called on to serve as caregivers.

The stress and challenges of caregiving is well documented, and research has shown it can lead to depression, physical stress, and financial strain. Caregiver Connections, initially formed by a group of caregivers, consults with caregivers to connect them with resources and services they need and offers The Senior Spot adult day and Activity Buddies programs, both designed to provide respite for caregivers while offering activities for their loved ones. In partnership with Eagle County Healthy Aging, Caregiver Connections also offers a caregiver support group, primarily for caregivers of those with memory loss, that meets the second Tuesday of each month at 4:30 pm at the Eagle River Presbyterian Church.

“We are very excited about our rebranding efforts which will allow us to better serve our community as will the addition of our new Program Director, ReNae Anderson,” said Brenda Reyes, Executive Director of Caregiver Connections. “Her energetic and caring demeanor along with her years of experience make her a great addition to the organization,” Reyes added.

November is National Caregiver Appreciation Month and The Vail Valley Partnership After Hours Mixer will feature Caregiver Connections on November 20th from 5-7pm at Blue Moose Pizza in Vail (Lionshead). The community is invited to come.

The rebranding of EVSL to Caregiver Connections includes rolling out a new logo and website www.getcaregiverconnections.org where more information about programs and volunteering can be found. More information can also be obtained by calling 970-977-0188.
